David Rouser Re: Hurricane Dorian Recovery

Image

September 20, 2019

Dear Friend,

While our district was spared a direct hit from Hurricane Dorian, many North Carolina families and businesses are still in dire need -- not just from Dorian, but from Hurricanes Florence and Matthew, as well. I wanted to provide you with a brief update, as well as various resources that may be of assistance to you.

We've recently updated our website with a page dedicated to helping North Carolinians find information on recovery and rebuilding efforts. It includes resources and contact information for a host of federal and state agencies with programs that will help families and businesses meet their disaster-related needs. I encourage you to visit the page to familiarize yourself with some of the resources available to you. ReadyNC.org, operated by the state Department of Public Safety, is another site with extensive information on preparedness and recovery initiatives.

As always, our four offices in Bolivia, Wilmington, Smithfield and Washington, D.C. stand ready to assist you. You can reach our Bolivia office by calling (910) 253-6111; our Wilmington office at (910) 395-0202; our Smithfield office at (919) 938-3040 and Washington, D.C. office at (202) 225-2731.

I also want to take a moment to thank the countless first responders, emergency management personnel, federal, state and local officials and others who worked around-the-clock to keep our communities safe during Dorian. I'm always impressed by the dedication and selflessness of these individuals in the moments we need them most.

As we continue to assess the damage across North Carolina inflicted by Dorian, know that I'll be working closely with the rest of our state's congressional delegation to ensure we get the federal resources we need to recover from previous storms and prepare for future storms. Congress approved $19.1 billion in disaster aid in May, and we'll continue to reassess our needs for additional funding going forward.

Be prepared: hurricane season will continue through the end of November.

Sincerely,
