District 1 County Commissioner Vacancy Update

On Monday, August 10th at 5pm, our deadline passed for the self-nomination process to fill the vacant District 1 County Commissioner seat.

The Pender County GOP will be holding an Executive Committee Meeting on August 20th to vote on the recommendation for this temporary appointment to complete the term of Brad George.

Mr. George stated his intent to resign as County Commissioner in June, with his resignation being effective on August 1st, 2026.

The Pender County GOP wants to again thank Mr. George for his many years of service to Pender County, both as a member of the Pender County Board of Education and most recently as a Pender County Commissioner. We wish Mr. George the best in all his future endeavors.

The Pender County GOP received two self nominations for this vacancy. Our two candidates are:

Both candidates have submitted their intent to run for this appointment, along with their resume and supporting documents. These documents are in the above links and will be sent to the PC GOP Executive Committee. Both candidates will have the opportunity to address the PC GOP Executive Committee on August 20th prior to the voting.

This appointment will run through the swearing in of a new County Commissioner following our November elections.

The Executive Committee meeting will take place immediately following our August 20th monthly meeting.

• Doors open at 6pm and food will be available for purchase.
• Monthly meeting begins at 6:45pm, with keynote Speaker, Luke Farley (NC Labor Commissioner) 

Our Executive Committee Meeting will immediately follow our monthly meeting.

While all Pender County registered republicans can attend the meeting, only the PC GOP Executive Committee will be permitted to participate in the discussion and vote.
