A "Thank You" from Our NCGOP Chairman, Michael Whatley
As we put a bow on the year that has been like no other, I would like to congratulate North Carolina Republicans for overcoming the immense challenges that we faced this year and delivering an awesome set of victories up and down the ballot.
Without a doubt, 2020 has been a year of both immense challenges and roaring successes.
The spread of COVID-19 and resulting lockdowns were clearly the biggest events of the year starting with their impact on our County Conventions in March and lasting through the RNC Convention held in Charlotte. Because of our deadlines and upcoming District Conventions, we had to act fast. The NCGOP helped over 50 counties flip their conventions from in-person to virtual events. We held all 13 District Conventions virtually, electing leadership, Delegates to the RNC Convention, and Presidential Electoral College members. We successfully held our NCGOP Convention virtually after Governor Cooper forced us to cancel an in-person event with 10 days' notice.
In August, we hosted the Republican National Convention in Charlotte, despite the fact that each state was only allowed to bring six delegates to the meeting. It was my distinct honor to be asked by Donald Trump to nominate him to be the Republican Candidate for President of the United States of America.
North Carolina hosted President Trump, Vice President Pence, Melania Trump, Ivanka Trump, Lara Trump, Donald Trump Jr., and Eric Trump for dozens of rallies and events across the state.
North Carolina Grassroots delivered unprecedented Republican support for our candidates this year.
- This election saw an 68%Registered Republican turnout, with over 1.8 million individuals casting their ballots for our strong GOP ticket.
- The NCGOP recruited and trained more than 10,000 volunteers and activists, who made 10 million voter contacts, with 7 million phone calls and 3 million doors knocked.
- The NCGOP delivered over 51 million pieces of mail to voters across the state, including more than 10 million pieces delivered as part of an Early Vote Campaign that led to Republicans winning Early Voting for the first time ever.
- The NCGOP delivered its 15 Electoral votes for Donald J. Trump and Mike Pence. It was an honor to nominate President Trump at this year's Electoral College Meeting.
- We re-elected Senator Thom Tillis to the United States Senate, won every contested race for the United States House of Representatives, and elected Madison Cawthorn as the youngest Republican Congressman in history.
- In order to support our Statewide Judicial Candidates, the NCGOP created a Judicial Victory Fund that raised more than $1.1 million, leading to a sweep of five Court of Appeals races and a sweep of three Supreme Court races - including a 401 vote victory for Paul Newby, who was sworn in as the 30th Chief Justice of the North Carolina Supreme Court.
- Republicans had the strongest Council of State ticket we have ever seen, with our votes securing 6 out of 10 seats.
- Local candidates saw immense down-ballot support, flipping Democrat seats all across the Old North State. Republican secured 61 County Commissions out of our 100 counties - the most in the entire history of North Carolina.
I am so proud to serve as the Chairman of YOUR North Carolina Republican Party. You have heard me say it once, or maybe a hundred times, but our State Republican Party is much more than our NCGOP Headquarters in Raleigh. It is the thousands of activists across North Carolina who donate their time day-in-day-out for our Party and our candidates.
I want to personally thank you for the work you have done this cycle and congratulate you on the results that you have delivered across the State. I also want to implore you to stay involved as we build on the foundation of success that we have laid in 2020. It doesn't end here - it is only the beginning!
I hope you had a Merry Christmas and a joyous holiday season, and wish you and yours a Happy New Year as we are gearing up for another successful year!
Michael Whatley
